Giant flying squid have invaded the shallow waters off San Diego,California, spooking scuba divers and beachgoers after washing up dead on the beaches.

The carnivorous cephalopods, which weigh up to 45kg (100lb), came up from the depths last week, with swarms of them roughing up unsuspecting divers. Some reported tentacles enveloping their masks and yanking at their cameras and gear.

Stories of close encounters with the squid have chased many divers out of the water and created a whirlwind of excitement among those torn between their personal safety and the once-in-a-lifetime chance to swim with the deep-sea giants.

The so-called Humboldt squid, named after the current in the eastern Pacific, have been known to attack humans and are nicknamed "red devils" for their rust-red colouring and mean streak. Divers wanting to observe the creatures often bait the water, use a metal viewing cage or wear chainmail to avoid being lashed by the creature's tentacles.

The squid, which is most commonly found in deep water from California to the bottom of south America, hunts in schools of up to 1,200 individuals, can swim up to 15 mph and can skim over the water to escape predators.

"I wouldn't go into the water with them for the same reason I wouldn't walk into a pride of lions on the Serengeti," said Mike Bear, a local diver. "For all I know, I'm missing the experience of a lifetime."

Jumbo squid that can grow up to 7 feet long and weigh more than 110 pounds are invading central California waters and preying on local anchovy, hake and other commercial fish populations, according to a study published Tuesday.

An aggressive predator, theHumboldt squid — or Dosidicus gigas — can change its eating habits to consume the food supply favored by tuna and sharks, its closest competitors, according to an article published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciencesjournal.

"Having a new, voracious predator set up shop here in California may be yet another thing for fishermen to compete with," said the study's co-author, Stanford University researcher Louis Zeidberg. "That said, if a squid saw a human they would jet the other way." - FOX NEWS

Apple Breaks Out It's New iPad Marketing Campaign at the 2010 Grammy Awards with Stephen Colberts Jokes towards Jay Z

Who's Cooler, Stephen Colbert or Jay-Z?

Wait, maybe neither one of them, maybe it's just the Apple Ipad itself that was supposed to stand out in there new guerilla marketing campaign on live TV tonight at the 2010 Grammy Awards!

Stephen Colbert carried the job of reading off the nominees for the song of the Year for 2009. But he looked as if he couldn't find the list of names, then he surprises us all with his brand new apple iPad. And he went through all the motions that showed really what the apple iPad can do. It was really on and working. Teh screen was changing from vertical to landscape and back again. Moving it around he showed how portable it really is compared to the macbook pro. And most of all Stephen Colbert showed everyone how easy it is to conceal it within a rented jacket at the grammy's.

Was this apple's first attempt at dropping a long running guerilla marketing campaign. We will have to say what all the critics say in the morning but it sure seemed like it to me! Maybe as I come across and find new ways that I say apple marketing there new iPad I will save images of them and put them all togther in a cool little Animo Video.

Twelve South Macbook Case and Leather Pad

So not sure how many of you are actually macbook users or laptop users for that matter but when i'm making my animoto video's on the go or on vacation I usually always have my macbook pro with me. I recently came across these really cool macbook cases and thought I'd share them with you! I have not bought one yet, but plan on doing so soon. Please leave a comment below if you have one or know of some other cool cases to take a look at.

Twelve South designed this case, which they describe like this:
Slip your Mac inside the velvety soft, padded interior. Zip it closed and your baby is nestled between two tough, rigid leather hardback covers for a solid level of impact absorbing protection. The rigid spine serves as crush protection for an additional line of defense. BookBook creates a hardback book structure that safeguards your MacBook like few other cases can.

Tips & Tricks for Animoto Pro Users

Todays Tips:

"Timing & Music"

Videos stop either when the music runs out or there are no more images left to display - whichever comes first. We display, on average, 24-35 images per minute, depending on how fast/slow the song is.

We allow one song per video currently. The song must be less than 10 minutes.

When producing your video, make sure there are enough images to sustain your song and that your song is long enough to show all your images. You can always do an Editing Remix and add more photos/switch the soundtrack until you get the video just right. You can either choose a song from our collection or upload one from your computer.

The music used in the video completely dictates the type of video that gets produced. For a more mellow video, use a slow song. For something more high-energy, use a high-energy song.

Find us on Twitter!

Spotlight Feature and Double /Half Speed:

Use our Spotlight feature while in the Image/Video upload area to let our system know which images are most important to you. These "spotlighted" images will be emphasized and stay on the screen longer.

We also have a feature in the Finalize tab that lets you double the video's pace. This way you can show more images per minute while using the same song. Alternatively, use the half-speed feature in that same area to slow down the song and make your video more subdued.

Animoto Video on Catching a Cheating Wife!

So as I was searching around and looking at different videos that people have made with animoto. I came across this video and it made me kinda laugh. Just thought I'd share it with ya...

Female infidelity is on the rise. If you suspect your wife is cheating, the easiest way to learn the truth is to discover who she’s talking to. Infidelity is impossible without communication. Once you know who she’s talking to at obvious, opportune times, you’ll know where to look. – video created with animoto's video creator.
